Samsung’s latest flagship was the Galaxy S5, but soon the company is expected to launch another phone called the Galaxy S5 Prime. The phone might also be referred to as Galaxy F. However, the features reported in a recent FCC filing and a “leaked” image narrate contrasting tales about the phone’s perpetrated positioning.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime (aka Galaxy F) has just passed through the FCC. Samsung has been releasing smartphones at quite an astonishing pace. Moreover, it is the company’s clear intention to offer a phone at different price points and specification brackets. The same rings true for tablets. Surely, the company likes to cater to consumers by giving them a plethora of choices in their mobile gear with vast variations in display sizes, specs, and prices.
Not content with introducing the new Galaxy Tab S tablets tomorrow, Samsung will also bring out Galaxy Note 4 in September. Quite recently, the internet was abuzz with rumors of Samsung releasing a slightly better version of its current flagship phone, the Galaxy S5. Though the phone will be officially named as Galaxy F or Galaxy S5 Prime, internally the phone is listed by three model numbers: SM-G906S, SM-G906K and SM-G906L. All three models have cleared the FCC Certification, reported TechTimes .
The documents shed light on the exact specifications of the Galaxy S5 Prime. The phone measures 142mm x 72.5mm, which is exactly same as the original S5. The display type and resolution reportedly match as well. Just like the Galaxy S5, the S5 Prime will sport a Super AMOLED screen with Quad High Definition (QHD) of 2560 x 1440 pixels. But the display on the S5 Prime will be slightly larger at 5.2 inches as opposed to the 5 inches found on the Galaxy S5.
The differences don’t end here. It’s no secret that Samsung was openly ridiculed for encasing their flagship S5 in plastic. Being a premium device, it was assumed that Samsung would clad the S5 in metal. Hence when the image of Galaxy S5 Prime leaked, enthusiasts were hoping it would sport a metal casing. Unfortunately that’s not what happened. As reported by PhoneArena, who has a pre-production model of the Galaxy S5 Prime, the phone appears to have a plastic cover with a design or paint that makes it look like it has a brushed metal finish.
In conclusion, so far the “premium” Galaxy S5 is supposed to have a 5.2-inch Display with 2560×1440 QHD Resolution, 3GB of RAM, a 16MP Rear Camera and 2MP Front Camera, and a 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 Quad-Core Processor. The phone is also expected to run Google Android KitKat 4.4.
