Former Marine Pens Response To Feinstein Gun Control Bill: ‘I’m Not Your Servant’

A US Marine vet decided to pen a personal letter to California Senator Diane Feinstein in response to her gun control proposal, saying “I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve.”

Feinstein’s gun control proposal includes an assault weapons ban, and was introduced shortly after the Newtown, Connecticut, shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The letter was written by former US Marines Cpl. Joshua Boston, who deployed to Afghanistan in 2004, and was first posted to CNN’s iReport on December 27, 2012.

In it, Boston writes:

“I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.”

Boston also declares that he is not a “subject,” “servant” or “peasant” and shouldn’t be punished for the acts of one, mentally ill, individual. “I will not be disarmed to suit the fear that has been established by the media and your misinformation campaign against the American public,” he writes.

The Huffington Post reports that Boston’s letter has gone viral in recent days.

Feinstein’s proposal would strengthen the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, banning the sale of semi-automatic weapons and tightening restrictions on grandfathered guns.

“When you have someone walking in and slaying, in the most brutal way, 6-year-olds, something is really wrong,” she told Fox News Sunday in December. “This is one effort and other things we should do to try to put weapons under some kind of appropriate authority.”

What do you think? Do you agree with Marine Cpl. Joshua Boston, or do you think that we need to revisit the Federal Assault Weapons Ban in this country?
