Floyd Mayweather Takes Shot At Ronda Rousey, The UFC Responds

On Thursday night, Floyd Mayweather took a jab at the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey as he bragged about his insanely high income per fight. This was apparently Mayweather’s response to Rousey’s jab at him last month after she beat Mayweather to win Fighter of the Year at the annual ESPY Awards.

Mayweather’s jab at Rousey took place on ESPN’s SportsCenter where he was asked about the UFC women’s bantamweight champion. Mayweather didn’t have much to say about Rousey, and he just talked about his income, saying “I’ve yet to see any MMA fighter, or other boxer, make over $300 million in 36 minutes. When she can do that, then call me.”

Ronda Rousey’s last four fights have lasted for a combined 130 seconds, while every single one of Mayweather’s last four fights have ended up going the distance, and the UFC was quick to point that out in their response on Twitter, using the hashtag #SheDontNeed12Rounds.

The whole feud between Rousey and Mayweather started after Mayweather was asked about who he would be interested in fighting in the future, and when he was asked about Ronda Rousey, he responded by saying, “I don’t know who he is.” Rousey obviously took exception to that, which is why she responded by saying “I wonder how he feels getting beat by a woman for once,” after she received more votes than Mayweather to win Fighter of the Year .

During his appearance on ESPN, Mayweather didn’t really have anything negative to say about Rousey, and he congratulated for her recent victory over Bethe Correia and for winning the Fighter of the Year award.

“A while back I didn’t know who Ronda Rousey was, so I’m pretty sure she got upset. I want to say congratulations to Ronda Rousey and the UFC. You guys have done a tremendous job and I’ve won probably six or seven ESPYS for Fighter of the Year. And I truly believe she deserves it. Congratulations to Ronda Rousey.”

Floyd Mayweather is set to fight Andre Berto on September 12 in a fight that some are calling an obvious mismatch . There is a belief that Berto, who is 3-3 in his last six fights, has done nothing to earn a fight with Mayweather, but Mayweather thinks that he has, saying that he chose Berto as his opponent because “he’s very exciting, and he’ll push me to the limit.”

Ronda Rousey is set to take on longtime rival Miesha Tate, probably in December at AT&T Stadium. Rousey has defeated Tate twice, and many are expecting her to beat her yet again when they step inside the octagon. As for what’s next for Rousey after the Tate fight, well, Cris “Cyborg” is now saying that she’s doing everything possible to make a fight with Rousey happen.
