Flower beards are the latest hipster fashion trend that has photos bestowing us with glimpses of what men would look like if a garden was growing on their chin. Perhaps the Duck Dynasty family should try it out. After all, it could be argued the long beards could use some natural camouflage of their own!
In a related report by The Inquisitr , in recent times it’s been claimed that Duck Dynasty’s long beards has suddenly made the hairy chin a fashion statement. Phil Robertson’s long beard has some in the Christian community comparing the Duck Commander patriarch to John The Baptist of the Bible based upon his actions, not just appearances. Of course, the history of the long beards has some calling Duck Dynasty fake since before and after photos show many in the family used to resemble hipsters, not rednecks.
Fashion editor Alexander Fury explains the history of the long beard, claiming that “in the 1850s, the beard came into fashion as a symbol of authority, masculinity, orthodoxy. By contrast, the 1950s beatniks’ and 1960s hippies’ hairiness was an affront to the still-prevalent military diktats of short back and sides and clean-shaven face. A beard was a bushy banner of rebellion. Today, all that deep and meaningful gumph kind of mashes together. To our modern eyes, a beard is redolent of tradition, a touch archaic.” According to fashion expert Jonathan Price, author of the 100 Beards, 100 Days project, having a long beard is all “about authenticity. If you look at fashion, all men’s trends are about being as masculine as possible.”
The flower beards would seem to flip that observation on its head. Men in the Brooklyn, Portland, and San Francisco areas have been posing for photos with their faces adorned with blossoms. The flower beard trend even went viral on Twitter based upon the #flowerbeards hash tag. There’s even a Tumblr account that focuses on all the flower beard photos coming out.
What do you think; will the flower beard photos trend bloom or wither at the root? Do you think the Duck Dynasty guys should try it out for one episode?
