Now that Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. have announced that a Superman vs. Batman movie will happen, who should play Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman?
Christian Bale has said that he will not return to reprise the role ever again, so the studio needs to be very careful as to who they choose to play the bat.
As soon as the news came from Comic-Con, speculation started as to who would fill Bale’s shoes in the role of Bruce Wayne/Superman.
There is no doubt that many actors out there could play the “dark knight”. Many have said that playing a superhero is a dream come true, and who can argue with that.
A superhero gets to do cool things and save people in distress. In this case he also gets to hang out with the grand-daddy of all superheroes, Superman.
I have a few favorites and others who keep coming up when reading about the new film. This “wishlist” is purely speculative and some of the choices have other British actors who could play the part.
The British and those of other nationalities, have incredible talent that could fill in the shoes to become the new Batman. Zack Snyder please take note.
Could we see two of the most iconic superheroes being played by actors from across the pond?
1. Luke Evans (The Raven, Fast And Furious 6, The Hobbit)
No One Lives (Pathe International)
The Welsh actor is fast becoming a household name and favorite leading man. He is currently filming his first leading role in Dracula and will play Eric Draven in The Crow. Producers for The Crow were bent on having him play the tortured musician and rearranged their schedule to fit Evans’ busy shooting calendar. Could he play Batman? He can play anything he wants.
Should Luke Evans get the role, or have the time to shoot it for that matter, it would pair him with his good friend, Henry Cavill once again. The two worked together in the Greek Mythology action film Immortals in 2011. Evans has recently played the villain in Fast And Furious 6.
2. Hugh Jackman (Les Miserables, X-Men: The Last Stand, The Wolverine)
The Wolverine (Twentieth Century Fox)
Coming from The Wolverine has to be an advantage for the Aussie leading man. Hugh Jackman has proven that he can transform himself into any character he portrays. His impressive performance in Les Mis earned him an Academy Award nomination and much recognition around the world.
Hugh Jackman could definitely be a strong contender, he has the acting chops and looks to play Batman.
3. Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey , North and South, Spooks)
Strike Back (Sky)
One of my personal favorites. The British actor has had many leading roles in British period dramas and is well known by audiences in the UK. However, Richard is much more than that. He immerses himself in his roles 110 percent.
Richard Armitage recently played Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit in an impressive performance that stole every scene in which he participated. In the US, Armitage is still relatively unknown, but he is a quiet force to be reckoned with and could play the superhero without a doubt. Acting, looks, and incredible talent.
4. Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Drive, Crazy Stupid Love)
Drive (Bold Films)
Here’s a Canadian actor that could fit the role. Ryan Gosling is a name that keeps coming up in almost any list for a future Batman. Ryan has expressed an interest in playing a superhero, he is still young and could be signed on to a multi-film deal.
Gosling is a favorite leading man not only with movie producers, but with audiences. His “playboy” persona could be very attractive for the film. Zack Snyder needs to keep him in mind.
5. Michael Fassbender (Prometheus, Inglorious Basterds, 300)
X-Men: First Class (Twentieth Century Fox)
The German born actor has all the elements to play Bruce Wayne as well as his superhero side, Batman. Fassbender has the looks, the acting ability, and the screen presence to play our superhero.
However, Fassbender is busy with a contract to play at least two more X-Men films, which could be a problem if he is interested in playing the black caped bat.
Zack Snyder stated that he knew they had their Superman as soon as Henry Cavill put on the suit, whether he already has someone in mind to play Batman remains to be seen, but he has his work cut out for him.
What do you think of the list of actors who could play the new Batman?
