Gilmore Girls fans are likely getting quite excited for the show’s revival, thanks in large part to the information that started making the internet rounds today. The Gilmore Girls revival is slated to land on Netflix in the near future, and on Monday, the company shed a bit more light on when fans of the long-ago-canceled program can see their favorite characters in action. At least, Netflix confirmed the show will be returning in 2016 and not 2017 as some rumors had been claiming.

The Gilmore Girls revival doesn’t have an entirely locked-down launch date yet, but Netflix said it will be coming later in the year. TV Line reports that the show won’t wrap shooting until the middle of May , so we shouldn’t expect Gilmore Girls to hit our computers until sometime in the fall or winter. The new revival is going to be quite a bit shorter than other Netflix original series, as it will be broken up into four, 90-minute episodes. As is the case with other programs on Netflix, all four episodes will be offered at once, so those who want to binge on the Gilmore Girls will be able to do so. Those who might be disappointed in the short season can also do some quick math and realize that had this been a regular hour-long program, it would be divided up into six segments. That means we’re getting a little more Gilmore Girls bang for our buck than some might have first expected.
In addition to confirmation that the Gilmore Girls revival will indeed be airing later this year, a nice little swatch of production photos have been released by Netflix showing all of the returning stars in all their glory. Among the photos that are sure to get fans’ blood flowing is one of Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel sitting together at their very familiar kitchen table. E! Online reports the stills are from the “Summer” episode of Gilmore Girls , which is one of those four 90-minute installments.

Apparently, each of the four episodes is supposed to represent a different season , and the entire revival is meant to pick up nine years after the final episode of the original series. Excitement has been building around the Gilmore Girls revival for the last few months precisely because people like Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham agreed early on to come back and reprise their roles. The new photos released today also show the return of series regulars such as Sally Struthers as Babette. Scott Peterson was inked long ago to return as Lorelei’s love interest, and Kelly Bishop makes an appearance in these images as well.

One series regular that didn’t seem to be returning was Melissa McCarthy’s Sookie. It turns out she has since confirmed she will be coming back to the show. McCarthy’s lack of appearance in the released photos might indicate she isn’t in every single episode but will appear later on in the seasons. Other pictures show some sort of a town meeting, although we, of course, don’t know what that meeting might be about. Is it possible the Gilmore Girls revival will be centering around a new musical that is being produced in Stars Hollow? We do know that there will be some kind of production that both Lorelei and Rory find interesting based on yet another Gilmore Girls photo.
Details about the Gilmore Girls revival is still very, very scarce, although these photos do give us a clue on what might be transpiring in “Summer.” In addition to the other actors confirmed as returning to the wonderful world of Gilmore Girls , we’ll be seeing Liza Weil, Jared Padalecki, Danny Strong, Sean Gunn, Keiko Agena, Yanic Truesdale, Milo Ventimiglia, and Matt Czuchry. The Gilmore Girls revival is due to hit Netflix later this year.
