Felix Jones, former Dallas Cowboys’ running back, has signed a one-year deal to join the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old visited other teams this past week before making the decision to join LeSean McCoy in the Eagles’ backfield.
McCoy should receive the majority of touches for the team in 2013, but bringing in Jones adds more depth to an already explosive offense. Michael Vick is expected to win the team’s starting quarterback job though Nick Foles could earn the spot before the season starts.
Felix Jones played each of his first five seasons in the league with the Dallas Cowboys and he now will leave “America’s team” to join their inner-division rival in the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cowboys finished ahead of the Eagles in 2012, though neither team made the playoffs.
Jones appeared in all 16 games last season for only the second time in his career. Though he played in every game, Jones received a mere 111 touches for 402 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
He also finished with two receiving touchdowns, the most in his career for a single season. Felix Jones also worked out for the New England Patriots last week before deciding on joining the Eagles.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported Felix Jones’ new one-year contract with the Eagles on Twitter. He will now join a team that is looking to rebound from a horrendous 4-12 record in 2012.
The Eagles haven’t been to a Super Bowl since 2004 when they lost to the Patriots in a thriller, and they’ve missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons. Jones will serve as a backup in Philadelphia, though he may also play a role in the team’s return game, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com .
Working around injuries during the regular season has been a stepping stone to winning the Super Bowl in year’s past, and the Eagles now have a versatile back that can fill the void if the team runs into trouble.
Did the Philadelphia Eagles make the right decision in signing Felix Jones to a one-year contract?
