According to Vin Diesel, Fast and Furious 6 will be something of a step backwards for the popular racing/heist franchise. Specifically, he said that audiences will get a look at the origins of Michelle Rodriguez’ character, Letty.
In a new featurette for the film, star Vin Diesel explains his intentions for Fast and Furious 6 , saying that the latest entry will visit and reveal story lines that occurred prior to the franchise’s established continuity. For example, the new installment, according to Diesel, will serve as an introduction to the real version of Michelle Rodriguez’ character, Letty.
“In some ways, this film is the origin story of Letty,” Diesel explained. Rodriguez then added, “It will be interesting to see how you take up a character that — you have to watch it, I can’t really explain much without giving it away.”
Rodriguez also admitted that she was completely in the dark about the revelation that her character had survived the events of Fast & Furious, reports MTV News . Her appearance at the end of Fast Five was as much a surprise to her as it was to audiences. But according to Diesel, bringing Letty back was part of the plan all along.
“Do you know Vin didn’t tell me that, that they added that thing at the ending of Fast Five ? He just wanted to surprise me about it. I didn’t find out until I went actually into the theater and saw it myself,” Rodriguez recalled.
She also talked about where Letty is at when Fast and Furious 6 begins.
“She is on the wrong side of the tracks. She got mixed up with a crew of people in Europe that are doing heists and they’re pretty hardcore.”
