By now you have probably heard about the hero cat that saved a young boy who was being viciously attacked by a dog, and now you will get to hear what the cat’s family thinks of its brave actions.
For those who are not big fans of cats, this story may change your mind about them, and make you even consider getting one for yourself. It may be worth your time.
Thanks to a surveillance video camera mounted to watch the driveway of the Triantafilo family, the events that took place were all caught on tape and later shared with the world, making the news and taking social media by storm.
It all hit the internet on Wednesday, when the video of the hero cat surfaced .
Speaking on the Today show, Erica Triantafilo recalls what happened when she realized her four-year-old son, Jeremy, was in some kind of trouble outside:
“It’s honestly just a blur. I just remember hearing him and the next thing I know, I see my cat flying out of nowhere, onto this dog, and just remember trying to get my son and get the dog away and back in its yard, away from both of us that it was trying to attack.”
Jeremy had been riding his bike on the family driveway when out of nowhere, this vicious, aggressive dog came and started to bite his leg and dragged him off the bike. Enter Tara, the hero cat.
The kitty leapt like a lion and scared the neighbor’s dog away from little Jeremy and chased it off to make sure it would not come back to bother the little boy. A one-minute clip, titled My Cat Saved My Son — compiled by Roger Triantafilo, Jeremy’s dad — was released on Wednesday and has already gone viral with more than 7.6 million views on Youtube.
Roger said he was surprised to see how things unfolded following an account by his wife while and paramedics, who were called to the scene by a distraught Erica:
“I was like, ‘Well, you know, I’m going to check the tape and see if we got anything, and see if it even caught what happened. And sure enough, it was pretty amazing to see just a cat take on a dog and so selflessly just put herself out there and not worry about if she was going to get bit or injured herself.”
“I think that dog did not know what hit him.”
The hero cat was a stray, adopted by the Triantafilos six years ago, and is known for putting the family dog in its place every once in a while, but is loved by all the boys in the family. “She’s just the most mellow cat you’ve ever met.” Erica says.
Jeremy, who slept throughout the interview, received 10 stitches to his calf, but told his parents he is “getting better” and is ready to go outside and hang out with the rest of the neighborhood kids again, thanks to his hero cat.
Erica Triantafilo also revealed that the dog who attacked her son may have to be euthanized, after she had a conversation with animal control officials.
Tara, the hero cat , was seen looking very protective on Jeremy’s lap in a photo shared on the Today website.
