Facebook said today that it was hacked last month.
The social network giant said that it was the series of several attacks but said that no information was compromised.
Facebook said in a blog post:
“Last month, Facebook security discovered that our systems had been targeted in a sophisticated attack… The attack occurred when a handful of employees visited a mobile developer website that was compromised… Facebook was not alone in this attack. It is clear that others were attacked and infiltrated recently as well.”
Yahoo News reports that Facebook has fixed the problem and has alerted law enforcement about the attack.
Facebook writes:
“We are working continuously and closely with our own internal engineering teams, with security teams at other companies, and with law enforcement authorities to learn everything we can about the attack, and how to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
Facebook was able to escape the attack without any data being compromised. Twitter, on the other hand, was not so lucky earlier this month. Twitter had nearly 250,000 accounts compromised when they were hacked in February . Major news sites like the New York Times and the Washington Post have also been victims of cyber attacks recently.
