Emma Watson has been a woman on a mission lately, and not just in regards to her sizzling acting career, but also as an ambassador for the U.N. where she is a strong advocate for equality among the sexes and women’s rights. This, rightly so, has landed her on The Time 100 list of the most influential people on which she is in the company of Barack Obama and other notable actresses like Reese Witherspoon.
As MTV News shares, Emma was granted a commendable place on the list in the “pioneers” section. Within the tribute to Watson, the former New York Times editor Jill Abramson highlights all of the fascinating qualities, honorable achievements, and brave moves attached to Emma’s name over this past calendar year.
Describing Watson as having a “gutsy” and “smart” stance on feminism and highlighting her initiative with the controversial #HeForShe campaign, as well as Watson’s handling of the “ripples” that went along with the campaign, Abramson helps to remind the masses as to why this young woman is so deserving of her place on this noteworthy list by Time . A backlash came along with the campaign. However, as Abramson points out, it also gained supporters. MTV shares the words from Jill Abramsom’s tribute from Time.
“Her HeForShe speech at Davos was an Internet sensation, but unsurprisingly, it drew the typical antifeminist rants and even some threats. Watson chose to highlight the moving letters she has received from fathers who tell her they are investing new hope in the future for their daughters. But she was also frank about the bullying tactics of her detractors and one site that made an empty threat to release nude photos. Her confident and cool reaction: ‘If they were trying to put me off, they did the opposite.’”
And that right there is why Emma Watson is not only influential, but also respected. Abramson reminds in addition that although Watson is one of the world’s highest-paid actresses, she was not shy about speaking out about how few female directors there are in Hollywood.
She was nine-years-old when she stepped up to audition for her role in the Harry Potter films, and followed her time devoted to the treasured films by attaining a degree in English Literature from Brown University. After which she became an ambassador for the U.N., all while managing time to continue her acting career. Emma Watson is “influential” and nothing short of remarkable .
