Dwayne Johnson could have another blockbuster thriller on his resume after signing on for the earthquake disaster flick San Andreas .
The actor formerly known as The Rock just joined the New Line movie, which is set to start filming in April 2014 and slated for a 2015 release. The project has Brad Peyton signed on to direct, a man familiar with Dwayne Johnson. The two worked together in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
The movie is about a massive earthquake that strikes Southern California. Johnson plays a rescue helicopter pilot who is trying to travel across the devastated state to reach his estranged daughter. The project is reportedly epic in scope, and though a release date has not yet been announced it could become turn out to be a big summer blockbuster .
It will mark a busy stretch for Johnson, who just finished shooting Hercules: The Thracian Wars and is moving on to Fast & Furious 7.
He has also signed on for the big-screen version of the 1980s television action series The Fall Guy . The show starred The Six Million Dollar Man Lee Majors as a Hollywood stuntman who worked as a bounty hunter by night, bringing his attractive female assistant and his cousin along for help.
Dwayne Johnson seems especially fitted for the San Andreas project. He had a number of action movies released this year, including G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Fast & Furious 6 and Pain & Gain. Combined the films topped $1 billion at the box office.
