Jeremy Vuolo is probably one of, if not the most well-liked, Duggar in-law. Far more liberal than Derick Dillard, seemingly more open-minded than Austin Forsyth and more assertive than Ben Seewald, the ex-professional soccer player and preacher has gained a large fanbase among the Duggar family community.
Just recently, however, one of Jeremy’s interactions with his social media followers turned up something incredibly interesting. Needless to say, it has caused Jeremy to be admired even more.
The interaction happened on one of Jeremy’s recent Instagram posts. A couple of days ago, the Counting On star posted an image of a book he was reading. The book, The Faith of Christopher Hitchens , was a biography of one of America’s most prominent atheists.
Many of Jeremy’s social media followers noticed the preacher’s choice of literature. One particular follower asked Jeremy about the reasons why he would read the biography of a prominent denier of the Christian faith.
“Why the interest in the other perspective? I’m very intrigued that you would read such a book!” one of Jeremy’s followers wrote.
Interestingly, Jeremy responded to his social media follower’s question, and his response was surprisingly deep and open-minded. As it turned out, Jeremy is fascinated by Hitchens’ life; so much that he seems to respect the late atheist. This is not all, however, as Jeremy also revealed that he has friends who do not even believe in God .
“Prior to his passing, I’d followed Hitchens a bit through the years, especially his interactions with Christian theologians and thinkers. He was a man of brilliant intellect who certainly knew how to keep an audience, to say the least.
“Having friends who profess atheism, I appreciated Hitchens’ candor and willingness to share his worldview. His perspective has given me a deeper understanding of many who hold to an atheistic viewpoint. Of course, the book is written biographically from the vantage point of his friend who was a Christian. This fact of his life fascinates me.”
Jeremy’s response is not only pleasantly surprising; it also sheds light on the kind of thinker the Counting On star and Duggar in-law really is. The fact that Jeremy’s response was in no way condescending further added to its appeal.
Quite unsurprisingly, many of Jeremy’s fans immediately praised the ex-professional soccer player for his open-mindedness. Others noted that his response had a very articulate and respectful tone , which all but makes Jeremy sound far more educated than other, more conventional Duggar in-laws such as Derick Dillard, who usually triggers people on Twitter with his traditionalist viewpoints.
“Thank you for sharing your viewpoint – I too, am an atheist and I applaud anyone for learning about others’ journeys, especially when they’re in such stark contrast to their own. It just shows what an intelligent, critical thinker you are,” one commenter wrote.
Jeremy Vuolo has managed to strike a chord with fans of the Duggar family, with many lauding the preacher for allowing his wife, Jinger Duggar, to be a lot more expressive than before. Since marrying Jeremy, Jinger has been seen by the Counting On community wearing pants, exploring her artistic side, wearing more modern clothing, and more importantly, holding off on having children.
If any, Jeremy’s statement about his atheist friends all but proves that among the married Duggar daughters, it seems like Jinger was the one who lucked out.
