Astoria, OR – After posting a message on Facebook about driving while drunk, an 18-year-old found himself being visited by local police.
Jacob Cox-Brown was intoxicated when he reportedly piloted his car through the streets of Astoria. Authorities said that the young man struck at least two other vehicles while he was driving drunk. According to KGW , police found the damages automobiles on New Year’s Day.
Although officers didn’t have any suspects in mind at the time of the discovery, this soon changed when authorities were alerted to a post on Cox-Brown’s Facebook page.
“Drivin drunk … classic. But to whoever’s vehicle I hit I am sorry,” the teenager wrote on his wall.
Two people who noticed the message reportedly alerted police about Jacob’s confession. It didn’t take long for officers to pay the 18-year-old a visit.
The Oregonian reports that authorities notice the damage on the drunk driving teen’s car matched one of the vehicles they discovered earlier that morning. Since the damage was consistent, officers felt that Cox-Brown was the man responsible for the crime.
Investigators said that pieces from Jacbo’s car were also found at the scene of the crime. For his role in the accidents, the 18-year-old was placed under arrest by Astoria police and charged with two counts of failing to perform the duties of a driver.
The Astoria Police said in its press release:
“Astoria Police have an active social media presence. t was a private Facebook message to one of our officers that got this case moving, though. When you post … on Facebook, you have to figure that it is not going to stay private long.”
Although the teen admitted to drunk driving on his Facebook page, Deputy Chief Brad Johnston said that charges cannot be filed against Jacob Cox-Brown since the post doesn’t provide proper evidence that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
