Drew Barrymore may have split from husband Will Kopelman earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean she wants to cut his family out of her life.
The actress/producer is reportedly very close with Will’s sister, Jill, and has continued a loving friendship with her throughout the breakup. Drew even made a guest-starring appearance on Jill’s show, Bravo’s Odd Mom Out , where she immediately charmed everyone involved.
“She and Jill are still best friends and everybody’s still super close even though there’s trouble, obviously. She’s incredibly funny. I didn’t really realize how funny she is… She couldn’t be sweeter. She’s like this super relaxed Topanga, if you will, relaxed hippie-feeling girl almost,” said star Andy Buckley.
Indeed, Drew told People just after Mother’s Day that she had spent some time with Will’s family and mentioned that they would remain family no matter what had happened between her and Will.
“We were here at my in-laws Country Club. Just hanging out all day and then we went to an art fair together. It was great. I’m absolutely as close with them as ever. Because we were close, we will remain close. We’re a family forever.”
Drew and Will announced their separation with a statement that included a passage about divorce feeling like “failure,” and Barrymore later said that ending her marriage made her feel ashamed, but it was important for her to be open and honest about it.
“I put in my statement, about our divorce, the word ‘failure,’ because it’s so honest. When you break up with somebody, you’re like, ‘Yeah, that didn’t work,’ but when you get divorced you’re like, ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure’. It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately. It’s a tough time. It’s a hard thing to go through. It’s like you’re being put on a cheese grater and every second, going, ‘Ah! This wasn’t the plan!’ ” Drew said.
Drew has been keeping busy since her split and said in a People interview in May that she has several projects lined up. While she couldn’t give away details, she did say one of them will involve a Netflix show. Her makeup line, Flower Beauty, also has some big things on the horizon, as well as her wine company. The busy mom says that next year will include some awesome things for her businesses.
“I’m doing my best. I’m going back to work for the first time in a while to do this Netflix show. I’m not supposed to give away details about the role, but I’m excited. It’s going to be fun. And then we’re just doing a lot with Flower Beauty, doing more international, we’re in two or three new territories and growing. And our Rosé comes out this spring, and we’re selling out. It’s gone. I’m so excited about that. Next year is going to be really exciting,” Barrymore said .
Spending time with family is also on the to-do list, and Drew recently threw on some large shades and a big hat so she could walk around Disneyland with her two daughters, Olive and Frankie, without being hounded by paparazzi. She was photographed anyway, but it didn’t seem to bother her as she was with an entourage of friends and nannies to lend a hand.
Drew opened up in a recent interview with Ocean Drive about her favorite ways to have downtime, saying she loves having lunch with her girlfriends even though now, as a mother of two, it feels extravagant.
“Drinking is an activity in itself but I’d have the pinot grigio with cold sushi as a weekday lunch date with a girlfriend because lunch always feels so extravagant to me. I don’t know why. Because of work and children I’m like, ‘I’m at lunch, what am I doing? How did I get out to a lunch?’ ” Drew Barrymore said.
