Drew Barrymore has finalized her divorce from husband Will Kopelman. According to People magazine , the couple was finally officially divorced after Barrymore filed for divorce in July. The paperwork was filed in a court in New York, and it seems as if this divorce happened without any of the drama that usually springs up between celebrity couples.
Once the divorce went through, it was officially over for Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman, who both said, “I do” four years ago. The couple has two daughters together, Olive, 3, and Frankie, 2, who are the first thing on their minds.
There was no evidence of drama with this split. The two, who were married in 2012, had made an official statement to People magazine about their painful decision to divorce.
“Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

The statement continued, “Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority.”
It seems like Barrymore has no plans to break her strong bond with Kopelman and his parents. In fact, after the divorce was announced, she spent Mother’s Day with Kopelman’s mother, Coco. Will’s mother has played a big role in Drew’s life, which she covers in her book Wildflower . In the memoir, she expresses that she finally found the bond that she had sought with her estranged mother.

Barrymore shared a photo of herself posing next to her mother-in-law, Coco, and sister-in-law, Jill, who she also praised in the book.
Sources opened up about the divorce stating that it wasn’t a decision that was made lightly.
“They wanted different things. Sometimes you want so badly to have what you didn’t have and then when you get it, it’s not exactly what you thought it would be.”
It was reported that their differences might have extended to location preference as Barrymore wanted to move to Los Angeles, while Kopelman’s life was set in New York. As it is, they will remain in New York for the time being because their children’s lives are in New York.
Sources had told E! about how opposite they are.
“She’s so hippie-dippy and all over the place and it started to become unbearable for him. She just didn’t fit in.”
Other reports said that the divorce was a “slow burn.”
When Barrymore appeared on Chelsea Handler’s new show Chelsea , Barrymore opened up about the taboo surrounding divorce.
“When you break up with somebody, you’re like, ‘Yeah, that didn’t work,’ [but] when you get divorced you’re like, ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure. It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.”
As far as parenting goes, it seems like the two are on the same page. Barrymore opened up about motherhood, and how she doesn’t want to see her daughters go through the same turmoil that she did. Barrymore didn’t have a childhood as she started working as an actress at seven, and although her mother was physically present, she was, for the most part, absent emotionally, which has scarred their relationship.
Of parenting, Barrymore said, “This is my chance to get it right. I’d never let them become child actors. They’ll have a chastity belt, a tracker system, no cell phones and we’ll live in the middle of nowhere. In reality, I’ll just lead by example by being spirited, classy, consistent, philanthropic, hardworking, loyal to my friends and there any second they might need me.”
