Doomsday Preppers star Tyler Smith was arrested for to his actions on the hit National Geographic series. Smith, 26, was the focus of a very controversial episode of the series, which depicted survival marauders. Facebook and other social media outlets went wild with heated debate after the prepper told the world that he and other survivalists were preparing and training to become marauders and steal from other preppers during a doomsday scenario.
Tyler Smith was shown shooting targets and testing homemade body armor on the Doomsday Preppers episode. The Spartan Survival leader’s activities caught the attention of the local sheriff. Smith is reportedly a convicted felon and is not legally allowed to own or even be anywhere near a firearm. According to KIRO-TV News , The National Geographic reality show participant was convicted of “communicating with a minor for immoral purposes” and theft.
Pierce County, Washington Sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer had this to say about the prepping marauder:
“Even if he doesn’t own the guns, he can’t handle, have those weapons, fire them, or possess them in any way.”
During his time in front of the camera on the Doomsday Preppers , he fired multiple rifles in order to test the homemade body armor. “It’s going to be light weight and stronger than anything you can buy in the store,” Smith said. The Spartan Survival leader also strongly boasted about his plans to loot and raid the ammo, food, and medical supplies stockpiled by others in the preparedness and off grid community.
According to the most recent estimates, there are approximately three million prepping families in the United States. “All your shiny ARs, your high powered.308 rifles, your 50,000 rounds of ammo, are all going to be ours,” Smith bragged during the Doomsday Preppers episode.
Sheriff’s Detective Troyer also told the media that it was Tyler Smith’s “brazen use of firearms on camera” that landed him back behind bars. “What led us to this guy was himself. He put himself on TV and in newspaper articles and he did things that scared the neighbor.”
The Doomsday Preppers star is reportedly a level one sex offender. The conviction stems from a crime committed in King County in 2009. Since moving to Pierce County, Smith has not registered with law enforcement as directed by law. The Spartan Survival leader could face additional jail time due to the failure to register. His current charges include a second-degree felony of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to The News Tribune .
