Donald Trump has official pledged allegiance to the Republican party. Trump took to Facebook and Periscope to live-stream the big announcement. During the press conference, Trump held up the official paperwork showing his signature on the “Republican National Committee Pledge.” As he held the document in the air he noted that he is “totally pledging” his allegiance to the GOP. Therefore, it seems that Trump has officially ruled out running as a third-party candidate.
NPR reports that Donald Trump took to the live-streaming app Periscope to announce his official commitment to the Republican party . In his announcement, Trump says he is “totally pledging” his allegiance to the GOP and the principles for which it stands. He legitimized the announcement by signing an official Republican National Committee loyalty pledge document. He proudly held the document up for the press to see as he announces the pledge.
“I will be totally pledging my allegiance to the Republican Party and the conservative principles for which it stands.”
During his announcement, Trump also noted that he sees “no circumstances under which I would tear up that pledge.” Therefore, it appears that Donald Trump is ruling out the idea of running as a third-party by committing himself to the GOP. Trump stood firm in his pledge, noting his outstanding poll numbers and confirmed his belief that he will be the GOP presidential candidate for the 2016 presidential election.
“The best way for the Republicans to win is if I win the nomination and go directly against whoever [Democrats] put up. And for that reason, I have signed the pledge.”
Trump also touched on other hot button issues such as immigration, Chris Christie’s signing of the GOP pledge, and the possibility of his children taking on roles in the White House. On immigration, Trump pointed out that had he not brought up the issue, no one would be talking about it. On Christie, Trump says he likes him, but that it is easy to sign a pledge when you have such low polling numbers. Finally, when discussing the potential of his children holding positions in the White House, Trump notes they are “capable” children, but that he doesn’t see them holding positions at this time.
What do you think about Donald Trump’s signing of the Republican National Committee’s loyalty pledge ? Do you think he will stick to the pledge if his numbers start to fall? Or do you think he would tear up the document and run as a third-party?
