A passenger aboard one of the Disney Cruise Line ships had to be airlifted and brought to shore after sustaining multiple injuries.
According to the Orlando Sentinel , a 29-year-old man is receiving treatment in Charleston, South Carolina, after having to be airlifted off of the Disney Magic . A Coast Guard helicopter picked up the man on the ship which was 45 miles off the South Carolina coast at the time.
Per a release from the Coast Guard, the man suffered both leg and hip injuries while on the Disney Magic ship. Around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Coast Guard was advised of the situation and made their way out.
Per Live 5 News , an MH-60 Dolphin helicopter was dispatched from the Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston to pick up the man from the ship. Once picked up, he was then taken to MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) for treatment.
The unidentified man was said to be in stable condition and continuing to receive treatment at the facility. There was nor word yet as to how the injuries happened.
Since the beginning of the year, Disney Cruise Line has had a number of situations that put them in the news. Most recently, a 38-year-old American passenger passed away after drowning at Disney’s private island — Castaway Cay.
That was when the Disney Wonder was docked at the island.
At the end of January, the Disney Magic actually ended up rescuing five nationals from Cuba who were sailing out in the water on a makeshift raft consisting mostly of metal barrels. The men were brought on board after the ship approached them, and eventually transferred over to one of the boats of the Coast Guard. A similar incident happened a couple years ago with the Disney Wonder .
Earlier in January, the Disney Magic rescued a man who actually fell overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship . The man fell overboard unnoticed, and the Disney Magic just so happened to be traveling the same route so they were able to pick him up, and bring him on board, almost completely unharmed.
A Disney Cruise Line ship was also involved in another situation at the beginning of the year where a family claims they were kicked off due to their child being ill.
The Disney Cruise Line has hundreds of sailings from numerous ports every single year, and they always bring the safety of their passengers and guests to the front. This latest incident with the passenger being airlifted to MUSC is just another incident in what has already been a busy year for the Disney Magi c and other ships in the fleet.
