Bogart, GA – A wheelchair-bound Army veteran used his 9MM handgun to stop a home invasion. Mark Sikes did not hesitate to let the would-be burglar know that he had picked the wrong house to rob. The Georgia man served as a military police officer in Korea.

Mark Sikes heard someone breaking down his front door and immediately reached for his 9MM handgun, WAGA-TV notes. Mere seconds after the gun was removed from a nearby drawer, the disabled veteran was face-to-face with the home intruder .

The disabled Army veteran had this to say about the incident:

“Next thing I know, there’s a man standing in the hallway of my house, looking in my bedroom.”

The Georgia veteran also stated that when he started to raise his gun, the intruder ran out the door as quickly as he could. Sikes went on to say about the attempted burglary:

“It’s either gonna be me or him. One of us have got to go. And this is my house, this is my home.”

The Athens-Clarke County Police investigators are still looking into the home invasion, The Blaze notes. Georgia police officers were told the man likely had a car waiting for him so he could make a quick getaway. Sikes told officers that the intruder was dressed in all blacks.

The disabled Georgia veteran also told local reporters that he now keeps his 9MM handgun even closer. Although a person knocking down a door to get inside your home would likely be quick a shocking experience, Mark Sikes does not appear frightened to continue living alone.

Sikes offered this piece of advice to the man who broke into his home:

“Find something else to do besides try to rob people. Because you came real close to losing your life yesterday.”
