Did Jared Fogle’s Lawyers Blame His Subway Weight Loss For His Pedophilia?

Jared Fogle of Subway weight loss fame was sentenced today over the sentencing recommendations, but that isn’t the big news. What was remarkable is that Fogle’s lawyers blame for his erratic sexual behavior — his drastic Subway weight loss.

The Inquisitr reported that Jared Fogle was on an ankle monitor while awaiting sentencing for his various misdeeds with underaged girls. Fogle’s wife had left him and immediately filed for divorce in order to protect their children. Though they initially denied knowing anything about Fogle’s indiscretions, they now recall an incident, but at the time, they did not believe it was criminal. This was why they immediately severed the relationship when new charges surfaced.

The Business Insider says that Fogle’s lawyers claim that he became hypersexual after his extreme Subway weight loss .

“Once he lost weight, it seemed as though in a short time he had hyper-sexuality,” forensice psychiatrist John Bradford said, according to the Indianapolis Star . “There are brain disorders that can be associated with sexual drive.”

It seems that Fogle’s legal team was trying to present mitigating circumstances for his deviant behavior, but it didn’t work as Fogle got 15 years, which was higher than the number of years he was told to anticipate.

“Fogle was sentenced Thursday to 15 years, 8 months in prison for distribution and possession of child pornography and traveling across state lines for sex with a minor. Bradford made the remarks while testifying in Fogle’s sentencing hearing in Indianapolis.”

The New York Daily News said the the disgraced Subway spokesman thought that the weight loss excuse would help him reduce his sentence.

“Disgraced former Subway spokesman Jared Fogle was sentenced to more than 15 years behind bars for collecting child porn and paying for sex with underage girls — after a psychiatrist said his sandwich diet made him a sex fiend.”

Though Fogle pled guilty, he hired the help of Dr. John Bradford to explain why Fogle went sex-mad, trying to find girls through Craigslist for sex.

“Before sentencing, forensic psychiatrist Dr. John Bradford said Fogle became sex-obsessed after he dropped 245 pounds on a diet of turkey and veggies subs from Subway, an extreme transformation that made him the face of the fast food chain.”

And Bradford thought the speed with which he lost the weight also contributed.

“Once he lost weight, it seemed as though in a short time he had hyper-sexuality,” he said. “There are brain disorders that can be associated with sexual drive.”

Local 8 Now believes that the judge didn’t buy the correlation between weight loss and and pedophilia.

“Prosecutors sought a 12 1/2-year sentence, while Fogle’s attorneys asked for five years. Judge Tanya Pratt cited the serious nature of Fogle’s offenses in a sentence that went beyond the prosecution’s recommendations and said Fogle will have a lifetime of supervision after his release.”

And at his sentencing, Fogle also addressed the court on his own behalf.

“At the time, I truly did not understand what I was doing as well as the consequences of my actions,” Fogel said, according to WTTV. ” ‘At the time, I thought that because I was paying them it was okay.’ Fogle said he intended to use his time in prison to help people, and said he regretted that his ex-wife, who filed for divorce his arrest, would raise their children as a single mother.”

Fogle has agreed to pay restitution to his victims to the tune of $1.4 million.
