Bungie decided to get ahead of the Achievement and Trophy hounds Friday by revealing a large chunk of what will be available in Destiny when it releases later this year om the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. One of those involves the long debated Vanguard references. The studio also teased incoming announcements concerning a Collector’s Edition for the fantasy sci-fi shooter along with new locations for the impending beta.
40 different Achievements / Trophies and their icons were revealed for Destiny with a mix of PvE, PvP and character progression unlocks. Bungie wisely decided to keep any campaign and story-based Achievements to themselves for now. So there’s no cause for concern about spoilers.
One of the interesting Achievements / Trophis for Destiny is “Valorous.” Its description reads, “Earn the maximum weekly Vanguard score.” It’s joined by the “Vanguard Honor” and “Rising Vanguard” rewards.
Those that have followed Destiny know that the “Vanguard” has long been a rumored fourth class in the game. However, the recent Alpha test set the story somewhat straight by revealing them to be party of bounty missions that can be obtained from one of the NPCs in the game’s Tower hubworld.
Taking on Vanguard bounties can help a player progress through Vanguard ranks. The current endgame for this is not known, but it is speculated to be an elite version of the three Guardian classes in Destiny . The fact that there are three NPC Vanguards at the top of the tower in the game seems to support that.
Bungie also released the following two in-game images from Destiny . The first is set on the planet Mars while the second is on Venus. Both of the screenshot file names are clearly marked “beta,” which means the Destiny beta will venture out into the stars compared to the Earth-bound beta.
A huge Destiny Collector’s Edition tease was also dropped in the Q&A section of the Bungie Weekly Update, in response to a question about whether the game will receive one.
It’s almost as if we’re planning to drop all the information you need, and more, ahead of Beta on an auspicious date in the very near future. (Sort of vague, I know.)
For those that don’t know, the annual Bungie Day is coming up on July 7. That may be a day of big announcements with the Destiny beta scheduled to hit the PS4 and PS3 on July 17, followed by the Xbox One and Xbox 360 a few days afterward.
And for those wondering if Peter Dinklage’s voice acting work for the Ghost AI that inspired a t-shirt for charity is final, it is not.
Here’s a quick run-down of the Achievements and Trophies that will be available in Destiny based on the image released.
