The Denver Broncos announced on Tuesday afternoon that linebacker Brandon Marshall has signed a four-year contract extension, keeping the four-year veteran in Colorado through the 2020 season. A key part of the Denver defense, Marshall has registered more than 100 tackles in each of the last two seasons for the Broncos. Adding four years to a contract that already kept Brandon on the roster through the 2016 season, General Manager John Elway is having quite a different experience in signing fellow Bronco linebacker Von Miller.
As reported by KRDO , Brandon Marshall will be receiving a huge pay increase in 2017. The upcoming season is the final year in his current contract with Denver, for which he’ll receive just over $2.5 million. The new deal is good for $32 million over four seasons, $15 million of which is fully guaranteed. The deal makes Marshall the sixth-highest-paid inside linebacker in the entire National Football League.

Playing in 30 games for the Denver Broncos over the last two seasons, Marshall recorded a total of 215 tackles and 3.5 sacks. The Denver Broncos picked Marshall up after the Jacksonville Jaguars cut him in 2012, as noted by BSN Denver .
Marshall was originally drafted by Jacksonville in 2012. He played in just five games his rookie year, tallying only two tackles on the season. In 2013, he only played one game for Denver. After huge seasons in 2014 and 2015, his new deal came with a $10 million signing bonus and total overall potential guarantees of $20 million.

Elway had only great things to say about Brandon Marshall when the contract extension was announced:
“He’s a guy that came here in 2013 and was on Jacksonville’s practice squad and just worked his tail off. We know what kind of defense that we’ve had, and he’s been a big part of that… He’s really just scratched the surface of what he could do as far as a linebacker.”

Von Miller, on the other hand, hasn’t come to an agreement with the Denver Broncos as of yet. The four-time NFL Pro-Bowler was offered a six-year, $114.5 million deal (with $38.5 million guaranteed) last week, but the offer was not accepted. If he were to play the 2016 season under the exclusive franchise tag, he would earn $14 million.

Over the last two years, Miller’s contribution to the Broncos’ defense has been undeniable. Playing in all 32 regular season games, he was the cause of 23 sacks, 94 tackles, five forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries.

Brandon Marshall and the Denver Broncos will begin the NFL Preseason on August 11 as they travel to Chicago to play the Bears. They play the San Francisco 49ers and the Los Angeles Rams at home the following two weeks, and finish the four-week exercise with an away game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Assuming Von Miller and the Denver Broncos work out a deal before the 2016 NFL Season begins, they’ll start things off with the first Thursday Night game of the season when they host the Carolina Panthers on September 8, a rematch of Super Bowl 50, which the Denver Broncos won 24-10. In that victory, Miller had 6 tackles, 2.5 sacks and was named the Super Bowl 50 MVP. Marshall had five tackles, including one tackle for loss. The Broncos will try to repeat their Super Bowl feat in 2016 without legendary quarterback Peyton Manning.
