Demi Lovato has had better weeks. Only a few days after the “Confident” singer’s great-grandmother passed away, Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama announced the end to their six-year relationship, multiple media outlets reported.
Over Memorial Day weekend, Demi said goodbye to her 93-year-old great-grandmother People reported. Lovato tweeted a heart-breaking image of the woman she called “Mimaw” hugging her in a bed.

Demi went into greater detail about her great-grandmother in an Instagram post she shared with the same image. Calling her “the world’s most special woman,” Lovato praised her great-grandmother in the post to celebrate her life.
“I attribute my strength to her.. She held on when she lost the love of her life.. The one she was married to for 53 years. She smiled even though she lost a son just this year. She told everyone she loved them every single chance she got and she joked even when her strokes left her unable to speak properly… She was my great-grandmother but we were so close that I never knew it was possible that anyone could have the bond that we shared even 70 years a part. The pain I feel is almost unbearable but because of her strength I will power through it.”
The loss of her great-grandmother was preceded by her great-grandpa in 2015, Demi Lovato noted in her caption. Demi referred to her 88-year-old great-grandfather as “Papa” in her emotional tribute. Later in the day, Lovato shared a dozen images of her great-grandmother in another Instagram tribute to her loved one.
As if losing her great-grandmother were not enough, Demi endured yet another loss during the week. Lovato and her long-time boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama both announced their “incredibly difficult decision” to end their relationship through an Instagram post they shared with their followers.
Demi and Wilmer are rumored to have ended their relationship because the two no longer saw a future with the other , Hollywood Life reported. A source suggested that Lovato and Valderrama wished to remain friends despite ending the relationship.
“[Demi and Wilmer] both were not in a rush to get married, they both were not in a rush to have kids and they thought that would change even when their close friends were doing all of that. But the fact that they didn’t have the urge to get married and have kids really got them talking on if it was worth continuing the relationship. And that is when they realized being best friends was the best option for them.”
While Lovato may have taken the break-up to heart, the “Cool For The Summer” singer didn’t let it get in her way of enjoying the weekend, People reported. Demi and her mother attended UFC 199 in Inglewood, California, serving as the first public appearance by Lovato since the split with Wilmer Valderrama was announced. Despite the harrowing events of the past week, Demi was spotted smiling on at least one occasion, according to the article.

Demi also will not let her set-back with Wilmer Valderrama ruin the tour she and Nick Jonas will kick off in July , The Inquisitr previously reported. Lovato and Jonas will have more than 40 stops around the country on their Future Now: The Tour , wrapping up the tour in Los Angeles in September.
Demi Lovato — who was nearly 13 years younger than her ex-boyfriend — started seeing Wilmer Valderrama when she was 18 years old. The couple began dating shortly after Lovato was released from a rehabilitation center where she received help for emotional and physical issues.
