Yesterday, it was announced that DayZ , the popular mod for Bohemia Interactive’s ArmA II , had amassed a whopping one million registered players.
As if that wasn’t enough good news for one day, DayZ creator Dean Hall confirmed shortly after on the official DayZ blog that the mod will be getting a standalone release with Bohemia Interactive handling publishing duties. Hall will act as executive producer.
“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so,” Hall explained in the post. “The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”
Unfortunately, details on the standalone version of DayZ are slim at this point–release date, price, and new features (if any) are all unknowns. Hall promises that more information will be shared in the coming weeks, however.
DayZ will soon have a new website at http://www.dayzgame.com/, but for now you can still find the mod at its usual place–which is here, in case you forgot.
Have you had the chance to try out the DayZ mod yet?
