Several months ago, the Inquisitr confirmed that former WWE superstar Dave Bautista would be cast as a major villain, named Mr. Hinx, in the 24th James Bond movie, Spectre . As we draw nearer to the November release of the film, Empire provided us with the first major glimpse of Bautista’s character and several other aspects of the movie.
In addition to getting a visual of what Bautista and his character will look like, the six-time WWE champion discussed his initial introduction to the character, Mr. Hinx, and getting a chance to play that character.
“When I came over to meet Sam [Mendes], I only asked two questions… I asked him if Mr. Hinx was a bada**. He said, ‘Yes, he’s a bada**.’ I said, ‘Well, is Mr. Hinx intelligent?’ He said, ‘Very.’ That’s what I like about Mr. Hinx. He’s very well-dressed and very well-mannered. I’m not just here to fight people. He has a sense of humour. He definitely knows what a metaphor is.”
Obviously, the “he definitely knows what a metaphor is” line is in reference to the Drax character that Bautsita played in the summer blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy . That character was a dangerous yet kind-hearted brute who never let any comment go over his head because his reflexes are too fast.
With this Mr. Hinx character, Bautista will likely be given the opportunity to show his acting range. As his comments indicate, the character will retain the “bada**” quality that he exuded both in the Guardians of the Galaxy and his WWE persona. However, there will be an added dimension of intelligence that Bautista will get a chance to show.
Also, when you factor in the cast for this film, it might be the biggest learning experience of Bautista’s career. The likes of Monica Belluci, Ralph Fiennes, and the man reprising the role of James Bond in Daniel Craig. That is an impressive conglomerate of talent from which Bautista can learn and expand.
Other stars in the film shared their impression of the characters they will portray. Former Inglorious Basterds actress Lea Seydoux, who will play Dr. Madeleine Swann, shared her take on the character she will play.
“I don’t consider myself a Bond girl. I think I’m not really the stereotyped Bond girl. I feel quite different. You can’t be like, ‘Oh, James.’ You have to find something else. She’s not a fighter, she’s a doctor. She fights in another way.”
For WWE fans who might have had hope for Bautista returning to the ring will have to accept that “The Animal” will stay in his cage for the time being. With the success of Guardians of the Galaxy , Spectre and the Kickboxer remake in which Bautista will star in, his movie career is taking precedent over his wrestling career.
It also may be a good indication that Batista’s career with WWE might be done for good. With good reason, too, as the name that Bautista is gradually building in Hollywood makes a return to WWE unnecessary — especially with fans who didn’t appreciate him during his recent run.
Spectre is set for an October 23 release in the U.K. and a November 6 release in the U.S.
