Dark Places has officially begun production.
Dark Places revolves around Libby Day (Charlize Theron), who survived the brutal murder of her family in what appeared to be a Satanic cult ritual when she was seven years old. Libby testifies in court against her teenage brother, Ben (Corey Stoll). Twenty-five years later, she is approached by vigilante investigator group the Kill Club, led by (Nicholas Hoult) who believe Ben is innocent. Libby is then forced to reevaluate her version of events of her past.
Sterling Jerins ( World War Z ) plays young Libby, and Chloe Grace Moretz ( Kick-Ass 2 ) plays Diondra. Christina Hendricks ( Mad Men ) plays Krissi Cates, a down-on-her luck stripper who accuses Ben of being a child molester, and who knows what really happened to the Day family.
According to Ain’t It Cool News , much of the story is told through flashbacks.
Dark Places began principal photography on location in Shreveport, Louisiana Friday. The film is written and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner ( Sarah’s Key ) and is produced by Exclusive Media with Stephane Marsil of Hugo Films, Charlize Theron’s Denver and Delilah Productions partners Beth Kono and AJ Dix; and Mandalay’s Cathy Schulman and Matt Rhodes.
The film is adapted from Gillian Flynn’s 2009 best-selling novel. The novel was also short listed for the Crime Writers’ Association Ian Fleming Steel Dagger Award and won the won the Dark Scribe Magazine Black Quill Award for Dark Genre Novel of the Year, according to AICN. Dark Places is Flynn’s second novel to get a film adaptation. Her most recent novel, Gone Girl , is scheduled for a 2015 release. Ben Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, a man who is accused of murdering his wife after she goes missing on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary. Rosamund Pike plays Nick’s wife, Amy.
So far, no release date has been given for Dark Places .
