Daniel Craig surprised UK troops at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan last week when he visited the country and then appeared just before a batch of soldiers were about to watch the latest James Bond film, Skyfall.
Around 800 soliders, sailors and airmen were waiting for the screening to begin when the 007 actor arrived. Craig was then given a tour of the camp and then he provided an introduction to Skyfall for his audience.
Rob Ingham, a Warrant Officer Class 1 in the base, who drove the star around in his Foxhound vehicle later added, “We get quite a lot of visitors here, but having James Bond was special. He seemed pretty comfortable in the driving seat.”
Craig was able to watch some of the soldiers train as they underwent preparations before being deployed to operation bases. He also met staff and patients at the camp’s hospital. The actor then even fired some of the weapons and machine guns that are used by UK forces.
Scott Craggs, a medical technician in Bastion stated, “It was really good morale for everyone – it’s a decent thing for him to take time to come out and visit everyone here.”
Skyfall , Bond’s 23rd outing, has been both a commercial and critical hit around the world and Craig has signed up to star in at least two more 007 movies. The movie had the biggest Bond opening weekend of all time at both the UK and US box offices and has so far amassed over $500 million around the world since it was released in late October.
