It’s really not a big secret that the Cleveland Browns are done giving chances to quarterback Johnny Manziel . He may not have done anything to exhaust his very last one, but there’s a very good chance that he could be with a different team in 2016. A lot of rumors are swirling right now and one is that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys could look to take on the troubled young quarterback in a trade.
With the Browns giving him chance after chance, it just seems like Manziel’s time in Cleveland is about to come to an end. He’s out of the season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a concussion, and it could mean he’s played his very last game for the team that drafted him last year.
The Dallas Cowboys are dealing with a starting quarterback in Tony Romo who is aging and suffered two broken clavicles this season. None of his back-ups were able to amount much of anything for the Cowboys, and the 2015 season was a complete bust.
Romo’s time on the field could be a few more good years, even at his age, but the injuries are winding that clock down a lot faster. This season is one that was lost almost from the beginning, and fans are wanting change.
Johnny Manziel may end up being that change.
According to Christian Daily , Manziel will be with a different team than the Browns in 2016, and that really isn’t much of a question. The most recent partying video of him that landed online has him in hot water again, and it may have been the last straw.
Browns head coach Mike Pettine, who has always strongly supported Manziel, may have finally shown signs that times are changing.
“We always talk in terms of long-term sustained success. And that’s what you want to strive for. If things aren’t right off the field, that’s very difficult to have that level of consistency, especially when you’re in a position of leadership.”
John Clayton of ESPN thinks that the Dallas Cowboys are a big possibility to go after him. He even believes that Manziel could be had for just a fifth-round or sixth-round draft pick. Yes, there’s disappointment all around for Manziel and the Browns, but his career doesn’t have to be totally over.
Not everyone feels as if Johnny Manziel is the answer in Dallas though. Tim Colishaw of Sports Day doesn’t think there is a spot for the young quarterback in Dallas. At least, not as long as Tony Romo can still make it onto the field to play at all.
“I will be surprised if he does either one. With Manziel, is he really a backup quarterback just apt to sit here and learn as long as Romo’s playing? I think Manziel has played well enough to convince some teams he can play. They have to become convinced he’s not a liability off the field. Using a first-round pick on a quarterback seems unlikely when the Cowboys desperately need Romo to play two more seasons. But the draft is a long way off and we won’t know until Sunday night where this team is drafting, so it can’t be ruled out.”
Cowlishaw thinks that right now, Tony Romo will obviously be back as the starter for the Dallas Cowboys. He thinks that Kellen Moore has done a good enough job to remain on as the back-up if he can improve in the offseason and training camp, but that remains to be seen.
Johnny Manziel is going to most likely land with a new team in 2016 as the Cleveland Browns are pretty much done. The Dallas Cowboys could be one of the teams he plays for next year, but that remains to be seen. Wherever he ends up, Manziel will need to change a lot about himself if he’s going to continue his career anywhere.
