Identity theft and stealing credit card information is a huge problem in the world today, and it can happen without anyone even realizing it. One California woman actually caught a Starbucks employee stealing her credit card information, so she decided to take matters into her own hands. The woman drove back into the Starbucks drive-thru and called the employee out for it, and put it all on video.
Making things even more interesting is that the employee was not only shocked by the accusation, but admitted the crime.
According to Click Orlando , a woman named Elizabeth Becerra believed that an employee at a Lakewood, California, Starbucks stole her credit card information. Her plan was not to necessarily turn the employee in right away, but to confront her.
Becerra got into the drive-thru line at Starbucks as her brother turned on the camera. She explained what was about to happen and let it be known that a confrontation was about to occur. As she pulled up to the window, it was time to call out the unnamed employee.
As Becerra gets to the window, the 19-year-old Starbucks employee hands her coffee order to her, and that is when the customer calls her out.
“So… we got you on camera yesterday at Ralph’s for $212.”
For a second, the employee looks confused and even leans forward a little to better hear what Becerra is saying. That is when her eyes get huge and she leans back in shock. She doesn’t even begin to deny the accusation, but immediately apologizes for stealing Becerra’s credit card information on New Year’s Day.
Becerra doesn’t stop there, though. She keeps asking the girl to actually say what she did.
“So, what are you sorry about? That you took ***ing money from me and my kids? What are you sorry about?”
In a shocking and unexpected turn, the employee does admit to writing down Elizabeth Becerra’s credit card number. From there, she continues talking and keeps apologizing for exactly what she did and then pleads with Becerra to not press charges.
“I’m sorry that I took money from you and your kids. I’m sorry that you had to come up here. I’m sorry that this is inconvenient for you.
“I am a good child. I swear I am really good. I really do go to school. I’m 19. I play soccer.”
Becerra inquires how the Starbucks employee even made a copy of her card. The cashier told her that she “took the numbers actually.” Again, she begs with Becerra to not press charges and swears on her own life that she didn’t get the money.
She continues to say she didn’t get the money, but also repeatedly offers to pay back all of the money taken to Becerra. The video even comes to an end with the Starbucks employee swearing she didn’t get the money from the card.
Becerra said, “You went through the $212.”
Later, Becerra shared the video on her Facebook page , and she apologized for the vulgar language, but warned everyone to “keep an eye on your cards.” Her brother went on and added said that it all started when his sister noticed the Starbucks employee taking longer than usual to run the payment for her order.
A couple of days later, Becerra noticed a transaction for a couple hundred dollars was taken out of her account. She wanted to confront the Starbucks employee before heading to the police to report the theft to them.
Here is the full video of the incident. Please be warned that there is strong language in it, so the video is not necessarily safe for work.
The employee at Starbucks stealing a customer’s credit card information is just one of many similar situations that happen daily. Credit card theft is a huge problem, and people like Elizabeth Becerra, who call out the thieves for it, are few and far between. Always report possible theft to the police.
