Disney 16-Bit classic games have returned to all computer platforms. In a surprise announcement by GOG some of the finest 1990’s platform games, including Aladdin , The Lion King , and The Jungle Book , are being restored for modern gamers to enjoy.
Classic 16-Bit games have often been in fashion with hard-core gamers. Even though they aren’t filled with graphics and fancy scenery they usually have strong storylines and harder game play. The problem has always been finding the system that you can play the classics on. At one time you could only find most of these games by hunting through your local flea markets for broken down systems and cartridges that went with them.
Now, with companies like GOG, you can find most games in online versions for purchase and download directly to your computer.
Disney seems to be leading the push into nostalgic gaming with these three classic games. As a surprise move, Disney has recently announced, as reported by the Inquisitr , that they are no longer going to support their Disney Infinity line . You will not be able to play the Toy Box feature at all as of 2017.
Maybe they have realized that interactive community play isn’t always the way to go. Instead, with these classic 16-Bit games they will hopefully gain a new market with the computer gamers.
“All three titles have been meticulously updated to be compatible with modern operating systems while preserving the original graphics, sound and gameplay,” GOG’s press release reads, as stated by Techworm .
All three Disney games were originally created using Digicel technology. At the time they were at the top of the graphics and gameplay. They had engaging storylines and impressively vibrant colours and visuals.
“With the advent of Digicel technology, hand-drawn cells from Disney’s animation team brought the characters to life with a level of vibrancy that was unparalleled at the time, and remains impressive today. Just look at how adorable little Simba looks when he roars at his enemies!” GOG explains.
Although, according to Wired , Disney no longer publishes its own games , they do have quite a variety available in the archives. Their current partnership with GOG is part of a deal that was struck between GOG and Disney in 2014. From this partnership, they have released classic Lucasarts games such as the digital versions of two Star Wars classics, Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: TIE Fighter . The newest additions of Aladdin , The Lion King , and The Jungle Book will join other classic 16-Bit Disney Games already released including The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and LucasArts’ The Dig .
The three classic Disney 16-Bit games are currently available on GOG’s site. From the video release (included below) you can see that the game is clean and clear. Even the sounds are revamped for the current digital society so that they remain playable on all the available platforms.
The 16-Bit classic games each have their own game play features. In Disney the Lion King, Simba has to fight his way through the Bad Lands, maneuver through giraffes and other colorful creatures, and fight the bosses with the final boss fight between him and his uncle Scar. In Disney Aladdin , you will be able to throw apples, collect diamonds, and even fight the giant snake Jafar turns into in order to beat the game. The Disney Jungle Book, after having renewed life from the success of the feature film, allows you to journey with Baloo and Mowgli to survive the jungle.
All three Disney classics are fully compatible with Window’s PC, Mac and Linux, so no gamer will be left out from enjoying the full experience of Disney 16-Bit classic games.
