Chris Brown has maintained joint legal and physical custody of his 1-year-old daughter, Royalty, after battling it out with baby mama Nia Guzman in court on Tuesday.
The legal battle began early Tuesday morning after Guzman filed a request to have Chris Brown’s custody restricted as a result of his alleged drug use and gang affiliation, with Nia claiming that Brown is unfit to care for Royalty without strict supervision during his preapproved visitation days with the toddler, TMZ reports.
In addition, reports further suggest that the model is seeking an increase in child support from Brown in addition to requesting that Chris hire a nanny to assist him in caring for Royalty during his approved visitation days with the child. Currently, Guzman is reportedly receiving $2,500 per month but is seeking an increase to nearly $16,000 per month.

Despite Guzman’s claims, the judge denied the model’s request to restrict Brown’s contact with Royalty and upheld the duo’s current joint legal and physical custody arrangement. Under the existing order, Chris is permitted to have 12 days each month with his daughter and is not required to be supervised during the visitation.
Following the news of Brown’s custody victory, Nia Guzman took to Instagram to defend herself against accusations suggesting that she’s purposely trying to keep Chris Brown from spending time with Royalty before claiming that someone gave her insight into Brown’s alleged drug-use.
In a screengrab obtained by the Shade Room , Guzman begins by explaining that there was no “big victory” in her custody dispute with Brown before hinting that an individual advised her to hire a nanny to supervise Brown during his visitation days.
“There is no big victory when it comes to children. I never I REPEAT NEVER wanted or have tried to take our child away! And NEVER WILL. All that was asked is a set NANNY in place. IN WHICH WE BOTH WOULD agreed upon. I went for this because ONE individual VERY close to the situation advised me MOTHER TO MOTHER. That I needed monitors and drug testing and random house visits. ALL THE WAY FROM BACK IN TEXAS they gave me insight on what was going on,” Guzman explains.
“I’m no liar nor a mother who is wanting to take a child away. I moved closer to THE FATHER so it could be easy on everybody and so he could have a hands on relationship and NO TRAVEL for my baby,” Nia continued, noting that she wants Chris Brown to be “the best man he can be” for their daughter.
Following her post, Guzman further defended herself against criticism by responding to fans’ comments regarding her legal battle with Brown.
One fan commented on Guzman’s post by calling the model “corny” before pointing out, “Honestly what was the point of even telling Chris about the baby if you are trying to take [his] child away from him,” prompting Nia to respond with, “honey. He knew about her since the BEGINNING.”
The news comes just one week after Chris Brown publicly bashed Nia for reportedly sharing a photo of their daughter donning a black tutu and matching legwarmers prior to her dance class, leading Brown to share the photo to his Instagram account with the caption, “It’s crazy to me that a parent would [be] OK dressing our daughter like she 16. I ain’t cool wit that. SHE IS 2!!!!”
In response to Brown’s criticism, Nia later commented on the post by noting, “If anybody thinks something is wrong with a baby…mad at the world in dance class…in her TUTU…U need to go pray!”
