Chris Brown Hit-And-Run Case Dismissed, Probation Hearing Coming Up Friday

The Chris Brown hit-and-run case was dismissed Thursday by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Christine Ewell.

The Los Angeles Times noted that the case was already in trouble . The prosecutors had previously dropped the charges of driving without a license and driving without insurance.

As I reported previously, those charges seemed fairly ridiculous. Where’s the hit-and-run? As Chris Brown himself tweeted in the aftermath, “I provided the correct info…Come on!”

He even tweeted a photo of the car he allegedly hit, which seemed to show that the fender bender was so minor that it was a strain on the brain to see that it had happened at all.

The accident victim may not have understood the paperwork she received. But the Virginia license that Chris Brown provided was just as valid as a California driver’s license.

And she clearly had enough insurance information from Brown to figure out how to get her car fixed. According to Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos, victim Olga Kovalenka received the insurance payment to fix her Mercedes and no additional payment.

And that’s all she wanted.

A Spin report said that Kovalenka’s lawyer told the court that she didn’t want to press charges and that she did get the proper insurance information.

But the Los Angeles City Attorney continued to argue that the alleged hit-and-run was serious because it happened while Chris Brown was on probation for the 2009 assault on Rihanna.

Chris Brown tweeted a quick, “Thank God!” today after getting the good news.

It has been a stressful wait for Brown to clear his name in the incident. Last week, he seemed to experience a very down period. After he was booked on the charges Monday August 5, he tweeted a couple of hints that he might quit music .

That Friday, he experienced a seizure that required a 911 call and a doctor’s check to make sure he would be OK.

But the accident may have lingering consequences, since Brown’s probation was revoked in the aftermath. Even though the judge dismissed the Chris Brown hit-and-run-accident case, the LA County DA’s office said they wouldn’t drop the probation violation charge. He’s expected back in court on Friday.
