According to a report from TVLine, former Glee star Chord Overstreet is in “final talks” to return to the show, reportedly on a recurring basis.
Assuming that the deals go through, Overstreet will reprise his role as Sam Evans starting with episode eight of this season, which is currently slated to air at some point in December.
Considering what went down in August, this is surprising news. Word had gotten out that the Glee producers decided not to keep Overstreet on as a series regular in season 3. He was offered a recurring role in lieu of being a series regular, but he turned it down in favor of music.
“They offered me the chance to come back for a few episodes, but there was nothing guaranteed so I decided to dive into the music thing,” he told TVLine in August. “And that’s been my main priority the past two months.”
Fox has yet to confirm the deal – and likely won’t until if and when it’s finalized – and it isn’t known just how Overstreet’s character will be written back into the season. For now, you can let your imaginations run wild on how they’ll pull it off.
