The Charlotte Bobcats were called the Charlotte Hornets from 1998 through 2002. But then owner George Shinn moved the team franchise to New Orleans, prompting a Hornets name change.
With the New Orleans Hornets electing to rename themselves the New Orleans Pelicans this opens up the possibility of a Charlotte Bobcats name change back to Hornets. The Charlotte Hornets is certainly a more memorable name since the team went to the playoffs seven times while the Bobcats only once.
Perhaps big change is in the mind of his airness, but the Charlotte Bobcats name change is being considered by team owner Michael Jordan who says returning to the Hornets nickname was “definitely an interest down the road.”
