Channing Tatum wouldn’t mind playing Gambit in an upcoming X-Men movie.
Although John Carter star Taylor Kitsch brought the character to life in director Gavin Hood’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine , the character really hasn’t gotten his due on the big screen. Should Marvel decide to get serious about Gambit, Tatum is definitely interested in landing the part .
“I would like to play Gambit. Gambit’s my favorite. I’m from New Orleans, around that area. My dad’s from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real,” the actor recently explained to Slash Film
Tatum continued, “No knock on [X-Men Origins star] Taylor Kitsch, though, cause I actually like his Gambit, but I’ve always lived around Cajun people.”
It’s pretty obvious from his comments that Channing Tatum is a big fan Gambit fan. The actor said that the X-Men character was the most “punk rock of all the superheroes.”
“He’s a thief. He kind of rode the line,” he added.
For a while it appeared that 20th Century Fox was interested in getting Taylor Kitsch back for a possible Gambit movie. However, this project never came to fruition. During a brief conversation with Screen Rant several years ago, the former Friday Night Lights star said he was definitely down for more.
“I’m just excited to go deeper into Gambit. It’s a flattering thing when people say that the only sh***y part about the character is we didn’t see enough of him. If that’s the case, bring it on. I want to go deep into Gambit,” he told the website back in 2009.
Tatum fans can catch the extremely busy actor next in director Bennett Miller’s drama Foxcatcher . The film also stars Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Michael Hall, and Steve Carell. The actor is expected to return for the upcoming 21 Jump Street sequel as well.
Do you think Channing Tatum would make a great Gambit? Who would you like to see play the character in an upcoming installment of the X-Men movies?
