Channing Tatum is currently promoting his new film 22 Jump Street , and as we previously reported, his unexpected omissions have been anything but boring. In fact, most of the headlines have little to do with the film and more about Channing’s boozy habits and the entertaining stories that happen over a shot or two.
This time around, Channing Tatum reveals that he partied way too hard with notorious bad boy and odd plagiarism aficionado, Shia LaBeouf. So how do Tatum and LaBeouf know each other? Well, the two were in a 2006 independent film called A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, and during that time, tried to bond by partying . It was before Tatum blew up to be the big box office star he is today, and before LaBeouf became a volatile enigma in the media.
A retelling of the drunken night was published in GQ after Tatum heard that Shia skewed what happened when he told the events. Shia’s account consisted of the pair vandalizing a bookstore together while in New York City. Tatum wanted his side of the story to be told, which involved booze, breaking windows, punching cop cars and hiding from cops in a pile of garbage.
In 2008, Shia told GQ that Tatum “ordered” him to break into a Barnes and Nobles and steal a Spider-Man bookmark. According to Tatum, “None of it was true.”
Tatum explained what really happened on that drunken night with Shia LaBeouf:
“We were drinking. And I think our initial thing was ‘Alright, let’s go out and try and get in a fight!’ This was just young dumb idiot actors thinking that that’s going to bond us. Because we’ll shed blood together blah blah blah. Just stupid actors thinking that they have to try and be method.”
Tatum seemed to be rather confused when it came to Shia’s version of the night.
“I don’t have any problem saying that I don’t know what the hell story he was telling in his interview. I really don’t. I’ve never seen him since then.”
Channing then told his side of the story and admitted that he kicked a window but that it wasn’t at a Barnes and Nobles. After that, the actors ran around and threw trash bags down the street. Tatum said that the night escalated when he kicked a “thing” and it shattered, and then LaBeouf “punched a cop car.”
“We all just ran in opposite directions. I didn’t hide under a car, I dove in some trash bags. In hindsight it’s the funniest thing in the world — just typical actors trying too hard.”
Of his co-star, who has since gone off the rails, Tatum said, “I just wish that he would just act. Just act, man!”
