Chad Ochocinco Released from New England Patriots

The New England Patriots decided to release Chad Ochocino Thursday after attempting to trade the wide receiver for the better part of the afternoon.

Ochocinco found some solace in Twitter, thanking Patriots fans for their support while he played for New England. “Thoroughly enjoyed the oppurtunity to play for the “Patriot” organization… fans were f—— wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best…,” he tweeted.

Lately, it has been a rumored that Ochocinco was out, particularly after leaving the Patriot’s complex shortly after arrival Thursday morning. He was released not for lack of talent, but rather difficulty adjusting to the Pats’ playbook, reports ESPN . Ochocinco started with the Pats last July after ending a ten-year relationship with with the Bengals in 2011. The 34-year-old caught 15 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown during his one year with New England. TMZ reports that he walked away with a cool $5.75 million for the year.

So what’s next for Ocho? Though he’s currently a free agent, Bleacher Report opines that he may not be for very long. The Kansas City Chiefs seem to stand to gain the most from picking up Ochocinco: “Though it may seem the Chiefs are set at the position with a good mix of veterans and fresh legs at wide receiver, Ochocinco could come with a very cheap price tag however, the most attractive part about this entire situation,” Jeremy Sickel of BR opines.

Regardless, Sickel advises the Chiefs to “stay away from No. 85,” asking, “what benefit is there to bring in a malcontent wide receiver on the downside of his career?”

Ocho is completely unpredictable on the field, and the only thing that seems to make him famous is the cloud of bad press that follows him around. Do you think he has a shot at saving his failing NFL career?
