Chad Ochocinco Signs One-Year Deal With Miami Dolphins

ESPN is reporting that former Patriots receiver Chad Ochocinco will join the Miami Dolphins for the 2012 NFL season.

The news of Ochocinco’s signing comes after reports surfaced that he was working out with the team along former Cincinnati Bengals teammate and fellow wide receiver Terrell Owens over the weekend.

Ochocinco, who was waived by the Pats after a dismal 2011 season in which he caught just 15 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown, first broke the news of his new one-year deal on his official website, Ocnnreport.com.

“The 6 time Pro Bowler will now get a chance to finish his career in his home state,” the statement on the website reads. “More details as they arrive.”

While news has yet to surface about the Dolphins picking up a contract with T.O., the 6-time Pro-Bowler congratulated No. 85 for signing with the Phins.

“Congrats to my boy Ochocinco for becoming a Dolphin,” Owens tweeted. “All the best to you.”

At 34-years-old, Ochocinco — a Florida native who starred at Miami Beach High and was a fan of both the University of Miami and the Dolphins growing up — joins a NFL team who is particularly thin at the wide receiver position after trading Brandon Marshall to the Chicago Bears in March for two third-round draft picks.

ESPN reports that over the course of his career, Ochocinco has caught 766 passes for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns.

All of the Dolphins’ returning receivers have less than a dozen career TDs.
