What we love most about Twitter is that it gives us a sense of closeness to our favorite celebrities. However, we don’t always say the nicest things to our Hollywood idols. Mean tweets are as old as Twitter itself, and since A-list celebrities began using the social networking site, nasty netizens have been flocking the site to mock their weight, their failed marriages and their art in 140 characters or less.
Because mean tweets against celebrities are too common to ignore, Jimmy Kimmel decided to turn it into a fun thing for celebs and fans alike. Kimmel grabbed a couple of celebrities and asked them to read mean tweets directed towards them. The results are definitely hilarious. Now on its 7th installment, Jimmy Kimmel Live ‘s latest “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” feature Julia Roberts, Ashton Kutcher and many others!
The segment was opened by Julia Roberts, who read a mean tweet from @kemotherapy7:
“There are people who think Julia Roberts is hot!? Her gigantic mouth looks like it will devour an elephant in one bite”
A hilarious one was read by David Blaine:
“David Blaine sounds like his voice is putting his face to sleep”
Don Rickles had a funnily nasty one from @yannispapas:
“Don rickles looks like yoda”
Other celebrities who joined the hilarious Kimmel presentation weres Don Cheadle, Ashton Kutcher, Courteney Cox, Andy Garcia, Mindy Kaling, Ethan Hawke, Matthew McConaughey, June Squibb, Jeremy Piven, Kit Harrington, Emma Stone, Gary Oldman and Sofia Vergara.
You have to admire the sportsmanship these Hollywood elites had to be able to do the show. Sometimes, we don’t realize how celebrities are harshly bullied online, and seeing them read the tweets for our entertainment is simply brilliant and humbling. Jimmy definitely did something right with this one, and right now, it’s raking thousands of views on YouTube.
Jimmy Kimmel Live boasts that segments like “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” have made them masters of viral videos. On their YouTube page, they claim the following:
“Jimmy Kimmel Live” is well known for its huge viral video successes with 1.5 billion views on YouTube alone. Some of Kimmel’s most popular comedy bits include – Mean Tweets, Lie Witness News, Jimmy’s Twerk Fail Prank, Unnecessary Censorship, YouTube Challenge, The Baby Bachelor, Movie: The Movie, Handsome Men’s Club, Jimmy Kimmel Lie Detective and music videos like “I (Wanna) Channing All Over Your Tatum” and a Blurred Lines parody with Robin Thicke, Pharrell, Jimmy and his security guard Guillermo.
Well, it isn’t really that difficult to believe. The video above is currently on its 4 million plus views, and it was just uploaded yesterday! We’re not sure when the next “Celebrities Read Mean Tweets” will come out, but we hope and pray they get to bring in Justin Bieber again.
