Earlier today I reported that CeeLo Green is no longer facing sexual assault charges but will be arraigned on one count of felony drug possession. Now, The Voice executive producer Mark Burnett says there are no plans to remove the popular singer from his judge’s chair on the popular NBC show.
According to Burnett, “CeeLo will not be fired” from the music competition.
In might be a moot point to begin with as CeeLo Green is already taking next season off from the judge’s chair to focus on recording and performing.
The next season of The Voice has already begun filming and it includes Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Shakira, and Usher. That lineup from last season was scheduled well in advanced.
Unlike American Idol which witnessed the same lineup for much of the shows first years, The Voice, works around its judges schedules and includes whoever is available at the time of shooting. Both Usher and Shakira were popular among fans during their first time out last season.
Funny enough, NBC was not even aware that CeeLo Green was facing any type of charge for ecstasy possession until it was reported by TMZ.
The Los Angeles Districts Attorney’s office is believed to be going after the singer for a single count of ecstasy possession. The only evidence in the case is a recorded conversation with a girl believed to be the singers ex-girlfriend. Based on his first-time offense if found guilty or if he pleads with prosecutors Green will likely only face probation and pay a small fine.
In the meantime the current season of The Voice continues with more knockout rounds this week and the live event to start soon.
Do you think keeping CeeLo Green on The Voice was the right decision? Should the shows producers wait to determine if he is found guilty of a felony?
