CBS’ ‘Candy Crush’ Game Show Announces Casting Call For Contestants, Do You Have What It Takes?

Today CBS has announced that a nationwide casting call for contestants for the upcoming prime time Candy Crush game show is going on now. Those who have mastered the game at home can test their skills in front of a live studio audience in the Candy Crush Arena.

All three versions of King’s Candy Crush games ( Candy Crush Saga , Candy Crush Soda Saga and Candy Crush Jelly Saga ) will be represented in the new one-hour long TV series produced by Lionsgate where teams of two will venture through the “Candy Kingdom” and “match three” as they go. Like the game app, the players will match candies in combination of three or more to win points, defeat obstacles and pass through more than 2,000 levels.

“I am thrilled to be turning one of the world’s most popular game franchises into a network television show,” says Matt Kunitz, Executive Producer of Candy Crush who has said that the franchise is one that mixes well with the type of shows that he likes to produce. Kunitz was behind ABC’s very popular Wipeout and NBC’s Fear Factor game shows. “As a Candy Crush Saga player myself, I am excited to amp up the action and visuals in our huge Candy Crush Arena.” What that arena will look like remains to be seen, but given the props used on Wipeout , it could be pretty impressive, but Kunitz also points out that what makes these types of shows so popular is not the visuals.

“One of the most important things about making a hit show is the cast. We are looking for fun, outgoing, Candy Crush players who want to compete on the biggest, swipeable, interactive game board ever created. Contestants can look forward to lots of fun, games, and a big cash prize.”

Candy Crush has become a huge phenomenon for the world of casual game apps. On average, about 18 billion game rounds of Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga every month. The tasty treat-themed games are the most popular King games and have helped the company reach 394 million monthly active users (as of the third quarter of 2016) according to today’s press release. The most recent “Jelly Saga” game was even promoted at a pre-Grammy party attended by Ciara. King has created over 200 interactive causal games and was acquired by Activision Blizzard in February of this year.
