Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield may no longer be the hot Hollywood item they once were, but it can sometimes seem as though the couple might have ended their relationship prematurely, especially with the way they each speak warmly about the other. In separate interviews, both Stone and Garfield have admitted to feeling strong ties to the other, leaving fans to wonder why they don’t just reconnect already. Emma and Andrew connected while working on The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel, but split up soon afterwards. Now, as each actor reminisces about the other, it seems more likely than ever that Garfield and Stone may end up together after all.
Andrew Garfield Reveals A Lasting Love For Emma Stone
Andrew Garfield was typically open during a recent round table interview when he was asked what actor or actress he would choose to be marooned on a deserted island with, according to E! News . Garfield’s answer, naming Emma Stone, revealed that, unlike so many of us, he would look forward to spending unspecified time stranded with his ex.
The round table was hosted by a reporter for the Hollywood Reporter and the host posed the leading question to Andrew.
“You’re on a desert island and can have one actor or actress with you. Who?”
“Emma Stone. I love Emma,” confessed Garfield. “She’s all right. She can come.”
Earlier this year, Emma Stone shared similar sentiments. Emma was participating in an interview to promote her new film, La La Land , and Garfield’s name was brought up.
Stone described Andrew as “someone I still love very much.”
In that same interview, Emma was asked how she was coping with single life and the La La Land star seemed less than enthused about the experience, possibly feeling nostalgic for her failed romance with Garfield.
“It’s been interesting. It’s been a good year. And sad. Pros and cons.”
Emma Stone Shares Hollywood Horror Stories With Molly Shannon
For their “Actor on Actor” series, Variety matched up Emma Stone with Molly Shannon, and as the interview progressed, the two actresses talked about Stone’s role in La La Land and how rejection affects actors on a daily basis. The subject became relevant, as Shannon mentioned the La La Land scene in which Stone goes to an audition and, as her character is trying to read through her lines, offstage conversations interrupt her performance, leading to disaster.
“I think actors are some of the most resilient bunch on the planet, because it’s very rare that you’re getting rejected every single day and you keep going,” said Ms. Stone. “It’s like a bunch of first dates: eventually you’d be like, ‘I’m going to be single forever.’”
Emma says there are worse things for an actor than to get rejected, because, in getting turned down, one is at least participating in the auditions process.
“But I think actually the worst time periods for me were not a bad audition, getting rejected; it’s when you feel really ignored,” explained Ms. Stone. “You know, when you just stop getting called in. Did you go through a period like this, when you [were coming up]? You went to NYU.”
Ms. Shannon revealed that she started out in New York City, but, wanting to present a greater presence on television, she ultimately moved out to Los Angeles, but she still didn’t face that kind of rejection in the traditional sense. Instead, Molly started her own stage show, which she used to draw attention to her acting skills.
“That’s so cool! It’s literally the conclusion my character comes to in the movie: ‘Oh, I’ll do my own show and put myself out there.’ But I feel like it’s so rare to take the bull by the horns and put yourself out there in that way,” said Emma Stone.
Shannon confessed she did feel that rejection after a while when her agent dropped her and told her she wore too much makeup. The same agent advised Molly to get therapy. Ms. Shannon says she took all of that advice to heart.
La La Land , starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, opens in theaters on December 16.
Andrew Garfield will be seen in Martin Scorsese’s Silence when it hits theaters in January.
