Tennis superstar Caroline Wozniacki was unceremoniously dropped from the underwear advertising campaign she started with the JBS company in 2012 — and she has another sports mega-star to thank for it.
When Wozniacki was first photographed modeling underwear in a collection of undergarments named after herself in 2012, she may have been too good at her new moonlighting gig. The attractive and tasteful, yet titillating shots of the then-23-year-old Danish star inspired numerous other sports celebrities to follow suit, or at least attempt to.
Reportedly, even Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf approached the JBS company about starting their own underwear lines, then posing in their skivvies to promote the products. But JBS rejected them, along with numerous other pro sports celebrities.
But there was one superstar who finally earned a green light from the company. And that new line of underwear became such a runaway success that JBS has now decided that it’s doing fine, and that the services of Caroline Wozniacki are no longer required.
Thanks a lot, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Sales of the Real Madrid and Portugal soccer superstar’s “CR7” underwear line , promoted by artsy black-and-white shots of Ronaldo nude, save for underpants, have been so plentiful, that the company believes its resources are stretched too thin to handle two superstar underwear brands.
“We had hoped to grab a market, but the impact of CR7 has been far, far greater than we dared dream of,” JBS director Morten Alstrup said. “So it is best for the company to stop working with Caroline Wozniacki.”
While Wozniacki has yet to comment on what it feels like to be fired from her own underwear ad campaign, the blow must doubly sting because it was Wozniacki who apparently gave Ronaldo the idea for his CR7 underwear line in the first place.
“Caroline Wozniacki is one of the reasons that we have got hold of Cristiano Ronaldo,” Alstrup admitted. “He had seen how Caroline dared to be pictured in only her underwear that we had made for her, and he liked it.”
The result was a series of advertising photos of Ronaldo, all of them more or less like this one.
While Caroline Wozniacki may have been dropped from the title of world’s number one celebrity underwear model, she at least still retains her grip on the number one spot in the world’s women’s tennis rankings, a position she has held for almost 70 weeks running.
