‘Carmageddon: Reincarnation’ Planned For Next-Generation Consoles

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is being planned for next-generation consoles.

Stainless Games originally started a kickstarter campaign for the PC version of Carmageddon: Reincarnation , and now has raised beyond what was needed to complete the game.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is a reboot of the classic Carmageddon series, with funding from Kickstarter that raised over $625,000. This was enough to put the game on PC, but an additional $3.5 million has been added since, enabling the developer to make the game for next-generation consoles as well.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is a game that appears to borrow heavily from the original Roger Corman-inspired classic Death Race starring Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine. It has you aiming for pedestrians and cheating in a race between savage driving experts. You race to a pounding heavy metal soundtrack as you commit vehicular manslaughter. An icon in the top left shows you your driver’s face (much more realistic than the rest of the game, it seems) as you go, adding a comic approach to the simple scenario.

Patrick Buckland, CEO of Stainless Games, has gone on record as saying, “We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders and fans. It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints. … [this] is a testament to our strength and to the loyalty of our fans.”

The original Carmageddon was released on iOS and Android last year, and the PC version is due around the end of 2013.

The extra sum from Kickstarter raises questions such as whether or not extra modes or features may be added to the next-generation games in progress. Perhaps the extra $3.5 million was offered on the condition that Stainless Games prove their dedication to the goal of creating the game?

The video below shows the developers acting out a sketch of a brainstorming session for the game.
