With Captain America: Civil War on the way this year comes some high-impact news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to Collider, via an interview through Empire with Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Civil War . It was explained by Joe Russo to have a “dramatic and controversial ending.” Anthony gave his explanation of the extreme impacts this film will have in comparison to the Winter Soldier , as reported by Movie Pilot .

“The consequences of Civil War will have an even more significant impact [than The Winter Soldier ]. In Civil War , we’re going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Psychology, and it’s an extreme shift … Winter Soldier was a political thriller; this is a psychological thriller.”

This is pretty much a reiteration of what they said last month in a report by Blastr .

Winter Soldier was a political thriller. We think of Civil War as a psychological thriller. It’s a complicated movie. And yes, it divides these people that you’ve known to not only be a team, but Cap and Natasha, in this movie, they’re evolving into a surrogate family for each other. So, it’s a closer group of people that’s being divided. That’s a difficult thing to do.”

The Russo brothers also used the two Marvel movies as a lead-in towards the Avengers: Infinity War movies and how all three would have a “through line,” according to Inquisitr .

Now, with Captain America: Civil War, it is anyone’s guess as to what kind of change will occur. In the comic book Civil War story line, Steve Rogers was assassinated when he turned himself in to S.H.I.E.L.D. The 18-issue story arc of “The Death of Captain America” indeed made an impact for the Marvel Universe itself.

Now this is getting into the spoiler zone. This is your warning.

Last December, in a report by Comic Book Resources , rumors have been going around about a couple of funeral scenes involving an opening scene where the elderly S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Peggy Carter, is being laid to rest. Then in the closing scene, there was a funeral being held for Steve Rogers. This is not much unlike the Fallen Son story arc. The plot is pretty much similar to that of Captain America turning himself in and then sacrificing himself as he’s assassinated, per a report by YouTube’s Hash Tag Show .

The Captain America: Civil War movie trailer actually had a piece in it where Bucky is grabbing onto Iron Man’s face and mouths the words, “Steve’s dead,” according to Latino-Review. This takes it back full circle from Steve Rogers’ death to The Avengers movie where Rogers says to Tony Stark, according to The Hash Tag Show : “You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you.”

There’s a question on who will be taking on the mantle of Captain America if it does happen in the Cinematic version. There was also said to be seen three characters picking up Cap’s shield. Agent 13/Agent Carter, the blonde S.H.I.E.L.D. agent that was Steve Rogers neighbor in Winter Soldier , Sam Wilson/The Falcon, and Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier.

Of course, in the comic books it was Bucky that took on the mantle of Captain America and even more recently, Falcon. However, it remains to be seen who will wield the hero’s shield. For one, Sharon Carter has no Super Soldier powers whatsoever at this point, so would it seem likely that it could be one of the two remaining characters?

One can find out for certain in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, coming out on May 6.
