This week’s rumor mills say that Caitlyn Jenner has a new gal pal — and allegedly, her name is Candis Cayne.
According Hollywood Life , its sources claim Caitlyn, 65, recently spent some quality time with Candis, 44, in New York. There, the pair took in “romantic dinner,” a spa treatment and Broadway show . Given the circumstances and fuss made over Caitlyn’s recent transitioning, this “new couple” alert could be pure conjecture. But, here’s a burning question: Who is Candis Cayne?
On the surface, Caitlyn and Candis have a lot in common. Both are transgender, so that’s a start. Allegedly, they met last month in New York at a Pride event. And, from that moment, sparks begin to fly.
Candis was born in 1971 as Brendan McDaniel, and began her transitioning between 1996 and 1997. In similar fashion to Jenner, Cayne is a powerhouse voice for the LGBT community . However, she made it clear that being a substitute for transgendered people is not her aim.
“I’m not trying to be a spokeswoman for the transgender community; I just want to be looked at as a living, breathing, happy human being.”
Candis is an unfamiliar face to the public. However, she is no stranger to the Jenner-Kardashian household. Last year, Candis rubbed elbows with Kim Kardashian and her mom, Kris Jenner. And at a charity event for the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation , Cayne appeared in snaps on the red carpet with the reality TV family.
Candis Cayne also has an identical twin brother, Dylan McDaniel. So, don’t think you’re seeing double. And like Caitlyn’s family, Dylan supported Candis through her transitioning.
“He was fine with it. I have been fortunate enough to not lose any family members from my transition . But seriously, it was more comfortable for [him] that I had not changed mentally, just physically.”
Candis also has an impressive entertainment resume. Writes HL: “She gained national attention in 2007, playing the role of Carmelita Rainer, a transgender woman on the prime time hit, Dirty Sexy Money . In addition, she took on another trans character (Alison Stone) in Nip/Tuck and has even guest-starred on Necessary Roughness.”
And, perhaps, this is the best thing to know about Candis Cayne: she can shake her money-maker. Early in the ’90s, she relocated to NYC and built a solid reputation as a performer in drag and as a choreographer. Her dance moves were so impressive, she earned a starring role in To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar.
The I am Cait star has not confirmed if she is dating Candis. However, it shouldn’t come as a shock if this chapter in her life turns a page.
