Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare wasn’t supposed to be officially unveiled until May 4 but leaks yesterday forced Activision and Sledgehammer games’ hands and we’re all beneficiaries of those leaks today.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warefare is the first of the Call of Duty franchise that Sledgehammer has worked on and if the new videos and images are any indication, they’ve done a very good job. Advanced Warfare was first hinted at by using a video called “Superpower for Hire” and a then unofficially unveiled with a screen shot from Game Informer .
Now a full and official trailer has been released that gives us our first peek inside the world of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare .
The new trailer features the voice acting of Kevin Spacey as a shadowy figure giving a speech about just why trying to install democracy in other countries has failed miserably. This sheds some real light on what Advanced Warfare is going to be all about, especially when paired with the “Superpower for Hire” video.
Some have claimed that Spacey is voicing a politician similar to that of his House of Cards character Frank Underwood (minus the Southern accent.) But Destructoid has more than likely suggested Spacey’s character is actually the head of a freelance paramilitary organization along the lines of the real world Blackwater .
This turn alone would be a bit of a change from previous Call of Duty games, that have had the soldiers you control being at least loosely based on government agents.
In Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare you will apparently be controlling soldiers for hire who are operating all kinds of neat toys. Just some of the tools of Advanced Warfare ‘s trade appear to be hover bikes, as well as exoskeletons that allow the soldiers to have super strength and the ability to jump really high.
Sources claim these Call of Duty soldiers have actually turned on the United States government which could certainly be an interesting twist in the mythos for the game series as well.
In the trailer, Spacey’s character lays out a rather compelling case, which seems like a good sign if only because it means the potential villain is going to be interesting enough to hold gamers’ attention. That hasn’t always been the case in this series.
While this Call of Duty may not include Predator , it does seem to have enough to be one of the best in the long running series. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is slated for release November 4, 2014.
