Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has a rather loyal following. That following is likely going to be growing with the impending released of Advanced Warfare’s “Havoc” DLC. Sledgehammer Games announced this week that it is going to find a new way for Advanced Warfare fans to share their exploits. The company is looking for some of the best gameplay clips out there and is hosting a kind of film festival to promote it.
The Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare film festival was announced with a rather funny video highlighting the differences between the Point & Shoot festival and other more serious film festivals. Obviously, the biggest difference between what Advanced Warfare and other festivals is that this isn’t really a festival where people are staging scenes and acting in them.
This particular event is more about showing off the coolest kills and the biggest bangs you’ve been able to recreate in Advanced Warfare . The “festival” isn’t going to be screening these scenes all over the world, at least it won’t be finding one location to do so. Sledgehammer Games is going to be putting Advanced Warfare clips on the official Facebook fan page, according to Gaming Bolt .
In one sense, this does mean that the clips will be seen all over the world. Anyone who is accessing the Facebook page will be able to view and then share clips they really like on their own page, just like any other Facebook page. This will potentially get the right clip, as long as it has plenty of action and plenty of explosions getting spread all over the world.
At the moment, there isn’t any kind of prize for entering the Point and Shoot film festival. There isn’t really a winner in this Advanced Warfare “contest” either. Bragging rights are really the only thing gamers can look forward to earning, assuming their game clips get the most likes or the most comments. The interesting thing is that it does seem like something that has some built-in cache if Sledgehammer ever wanted to do a proper contest.
It should be noted this is far from the first time a company has taken advantage of social media in this way. Electronic Arts launched a similar program only with screenshots of gameplay. EA had Madden 15 players tweet the screenshots to the company’s Twitter account and the best screenshots were entered into the game’s loading screens. So far, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Sledgehammer Games has no plans to somehow incorporate the game clips into the actual game.
