The first major DLC pack for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launches tomorrow (or today, depending one when you’re reading this), but for some the wait will not be over.
Advanced Warfare ‘s DLC will launch on January 27 for Xbox One and Xbox 360 , but Sony and PC fans will be left waiting. This is hardly the first time a pack of DLC has been exclusive for one console, and Call of Duty has made their DLC timed-exclusives to Microsoft’s console since the Modern Warfare era.
While Xbox fans will be eagerly playing the new Zombie modes as well as living out their John Malkovich fantasies , Advanced Warfare fans will be left wondering: How long will the wait be this time? Most DLC has been a month-long exclusive, giving Xbox players plenty of time to be happy they chose their console, but normally that time window has been announced alongside the initial release date. This time around, Activision has been pretty mum on the time table for the rest of Call of Duty fans.
Even a quick look at the Advanced Warfare Twitter page and you would think that there weren’t any other platforms.

Exclusive DLC isn’t anything new, but normally there is acknowledgment that the pack will be coming to the other platforms as well. With Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare , the only mention that the other systems will be receiving a version of the downloadable content comes from the original press release , and even there they aren’t mentioned by name. DLC has already somewhat of a tarnished name, but to make them exclusive (which Advanced Warfare isn’t alone in doing), it opens some consumers to truly feel as though their platform of choice is negelected. This gives some the perception that developers of the game favor one over the other. While perception is hardly reality, the idea that some players will have to wait simply because they don’t own system “X” or console “Y” leaves some gamers less inclined to buy into the next installment of the series.
However, for those players who are eager to see the additional content in action while they wait for their platform to obtain COD’s DLC, IGN hosted a livestream with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare developers, and Denver Broncos Tight End Julius Thomas. In the stream they showcased the various modes and gameplay additions for the Advanced Warfare Havoc content.
Are you going to be playing Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Havoc DLC tomorrow, or will you be among the players left waiting thanks to hindering exclusivity deals? Let us know in the comments below.
